Female Student Athlete Bursary
The Maritime Hockey Academy is pleased to announce a bursary program to develop young female hockey players within its program. These bursaries will allow ten female hockey players between Grades Five and Nine the opportunity to attend the school for the 2010-2011 school year at a reduced cost. Candidates will be required to meet the schools minimum entrance requirements.
Developing female hockey players in Nova Scotia has always been a school priority. The schools founder, Jamie Wood has been coaching some of the world’s best female hockey players and is excited about the launch of this program.
"I am very happy that MHA continues to provide opportunities for female hockey players. The Maritimes has produced some great players over the years and this program will give young student-athletes a chance to develop their skills and get a great education. Being able to surround yourself with like-minded individuals in pursuit of a goal is a powerful motivator. As a coach I have seen time and again that hard work and the opportunity to develop, help young people achieve their goals and dreams."
During the 2009-2010 school year, female players made up 25% of the schools population.
